Wardrobe Closets

A well-designed wardrobe is like a piece of custom-crafted furniture that fits your clothing and accessories and fits into your décor. The right finishes, decorative moldings, and beautiful sliding wardrobe doors are designed to fit naturally into a space—and provide you with much-needed storage and functionality where none existed before.

Key Wardrobe Product Features

  • A custom-designed wardrobe is like a free-standing closet. Decorative moldings and details give this system the look and feel of installed furniture.
  • As with any other custom closet, features such as multiple hanging areas, adjustable shelving, drawers, baskets, and hampers will tailor the system to your needs.
  • Pull-out accessories such as belt, tie, scarf, and valet rods maximize space and organization.
  • A set of drawers adds storage capacity and puts everything within reach. Our drawers feature dovetail construction, undermount slides, and quiet soft-close mechanisms to ensure superior quality and a lifetime of use.
  • Wardrobe lighting increases functionality and dramatically enhances the aesthetic of a simple design. Options include LED, puck, and ribbon lights with multiple switching choices.
  • Choose from a variety of door styles—both sliding wardrobe doors and standard—made of solid wood or with special inserts for a personalized aesthetic that fits your budget.

Wardrobe FAQs

Utilize double hanging to maximize vertical space and consider other storage solutions, such as shelves, drawers, and shoe storage.

A wardrobe is a more contemporary term for an armoire. They are both deep cabinets that house hanging clothing in a room without a closet.

Yes and No. A closet is built into a room and separated by a door. A wardrobe is a cabinet, or wall of cabinets, which also has doors and is more of a furniture piece. Both are closets in the sense that both store clothing.

An armoire is a freestanding cabinet made to house clothing. Our cabinets are not freestanding but rather attached to the wall, like built-in furniture.

Wardrobes, or armoires, date back to a time when closets were not included in the construction of homes and so they were the only way to store clothing. Eventually, as homes started including closets as part of the floor plan, the use of wardrobes diminished.

Utilizing double hanging in a wardrobe frees up space for other storage solutions, such as shelves and drawers.

At California Closets, we can design shelving as part of the wardrobe solution. During your free design consultation, make sure to provide your wish list, including your shelving preferences.

Wardrobe shelves can often be too deep to store folded items, like sweaters, shirts, and shoes. These typically only need 12″ -14″ of depth which is why our standard shelf depth is 14″. Shelves deeper than that make it difficult to access items towards the back.
