The proud owner of a 1920s-style bungalow, Davis Ligon—plus, a dog named Teddy—wanted eager to complete his home renovations. After upgrading the master bedroom and bathroom, the master closet simply felt like a natural next step.
Though Davis had a vision of what he wanted to achieve—tailored, masculine—he needed an expert to help navigate the logistics and put the plan into action.
I’m very much into design—I’m a dentist, so aesthetics are big for me. I wanted [the closet] to have a more current style, but still in keeping with the classic nature of the house.
Davis met with California Closets Charlotte design consultant Whitney Hahn for a consultation. The rest, he says, was history.
In order to maximize space, Whitney included custom shelving throughout, adding features like a pull-out rack and dual hampers to the mix. A sleek, lacquered finish, brass hardware, and even a center tower complete with a display case for Davis’ cap collection instantly gave the space the modern appeal Davis wanted.
Davis LigonWe really clicked. I had my own ideas, but [Whitney] was willing to listen and work with me. Of course, she was really good at coming up with the actual design — the nuts and bolts. She even came back [before the installation] to remeasure one of my suitcases.
It felt kind of like a magazine cover. I mean, I knew it was going to be good, but I was awestruck. My friends like to joke that I have a Kardashian closet.
Even though Davis and Whitney collaborated closely throughout the design process, the personalization of the finished closet still shocked Davis.
Davis, who admits that he’s “not the most organized person,” adds that his closet has worked to change all of that.
As for Teddy? It just may be his favorite room in the house.
I keep all my dress shirts on one side, and my normal day-to-day clothes on the other. It’s just nice to be able to keep things separate. [And] the extra storage is a game changer.
